Remember It

1. Why should you never try to copy someone else as a teacher or preacher?
God made you the unique person you are. He’s given you your own voice, face, personality, and life experience. We learn from others to be a good teacher or preacher, but we don’t copy them.
2. Why is it essential that you understand and use your voice effectively?
Our voice is our tool for communication. It can bore the listener or excite the listener. It can move the emotions. It can grab a person’s attention. It can create interest.
3. List several ways that the voice can be used to create interest on the part of the listener.
Use lots of voice inflection. Use pause and silence. Adjust the speed at which you speak. Adjust the volume, and don’t be monotone.

Discuss It

  1. Why has the speaker consistently hammered away at the importance of being clear, being simple, and being obvious?
  2. What are some ways that you can both guard your voice and improve your voice.
  3. After you have preached a message, how does your voice feel?

Apply It

  1. Go online and collect as much information as you can about the use of the human voice, how to improve it, guard it and understand it.
  2. Ask someone who is very close to you to help critique the use of your voice in your teaching. Have them critique you based on the guidelines in section IV above.
