David was a great leader of God’s people: “With upright heart he shepherded them and guided them with his skillful hand” (Psalm 78:72, emphasis added).

The same two traits that qualified David for the task—his character and his skill—are also required of elders and future church leaders. We looked at character issues in the “Personal Life” section. In this section, we will look at developing skillful hands for shepherding people. We will be ineffective if we don’t desire to improve our people skills and conform to scriptural teaching regarding relationships.
